The Top Most Destroying Events Caused By Earth, Water, Wind And Fire

The nature in all its mighty beauty has a very curious way of showing the human kind that it can wipe us out of the picture in a matter of days if not even minute.
Its spectacular rage and terrifying way of crushing human life are able to turn the civilization to dust or even to erase the memory of it from the surface of the Earth.
It is true that from the ecology’s point of view we are mostly responsible for the large majority of natural disasters but even so, the fragile human life is endangered at such high scale that nothing actually can tell us that we are completely safe in front of the nature’s wrath.

1. The Big China Flood In 1931 – The Drought And Then The Rain

After a two years drought in 1929 and 1930 in the beginning of 1931 the heavy snowing spread all over the Chinese territory with a frequency without equal. The heavy snowing melted in spring and the melting was followed by the largest amount of rain in that century.

As a conclusion the three main rivers of China: Huai, Yangtze and Yellow River doubled their volume and as a result they spread deadly waters all over the territory drowning the provinces and killing over 3 million people.
It took China over 5 years to completely recover from the natural disaster that left more than 5 million people homeless.

2. The Johnston PA Disaster Flood In 1889 – Man’s Irresponsibility Leading To Disaster

China may be the champion as floods go but US had its share of unexpected flooding that ended the life over 2200 people crushing Johnston and its surroundings to the ground.

The unexpected amount of rain fell that year destroyed the South Fork Dam which broke crushing the town of Johnston and the entire valley area under almost 5 million gallons of water.

3. The Great Chicago Fire 1893 – Hazardous Accidents In An Age Without Fire Protection

Started from an awkward accident of a cow hitting a fire lantern, this was one of the deadliest fires in the history of mankind.

Hundreds were killed and both the city of Chicago from that time and the large area around it were turned literally into ashes. Still, this disaster was the start of the reconstruction which made Chicago what it is today.

4. Shaanxi Earthquake 1556 – The Cruel Faith Of A Poor Area

During the Ming Dynasty, China was shook by the largest and deadliest earthquake in the history that caused over 800,000 deaths and leveled to the ground eleven provinces.

The number of deaths and the destructions that remained after it make this one without equal. The large number of deaths came from the crushing of the carved dwellings which the population in the area used as living spaces.

5. The Dust Bowl 1930s – A Man Caused Event Resulted Into Permanent Damage

Mainly caused by an ecological disaster, the dust storm swept over the great American and Canadian prairie destroying every trace of crops and endangering human and animal lives.

The massive erosion caused by invasive agriculture caused the longest natural disaster. The dust storms lasted almost 6 years in a row and forced people to run from the path of their destruction.
The economy impact of this disaster was without precedent and as a result when in 1940 the impact was still felt, the first signs of crop rotation theory started to be applied.

6. The Great Miami Hurricane 1926 – The “Perfect Storm”

The most destructive storm hit the Florida Coast in 1926 and spread to the Alabama and the Bahamas islands. The huge impact it had over the US economy jumpstarted the Great Recession.
